Dr. Neena Desai — Consultant in Hyderabad

Dr. Neena Desai is a Consultant and former Head of Department in obstetrics and gynaecology at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, Hyderabad. Her record shows more than 55 years in practice, which makes her one of the longest-serving gynaecologists on this list.

Her clinical range is general gynaecology at its widest. She manages abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and post-menopausal bleeding, and provides menopause management. Operatively she performs hysterectomy and laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy and laparoscopic myomectomy, ovarian cyst surgery, endometriosis surgery, pelvic organ prolapse surgery, and uterine polyp removal by hysteroscopic polypectomy.

Her qualifications span three decades of study. She took her MBBS at the University of Calcutta in 1965 and her D.G.O. there in 1970, then her M.D. in obstetrics and gynaecology at Osmania University in November 1972, followed by the D.N.B. Alongside KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad, she has been associated with Mahavir Hospital.

Teaching is a formal part of her role: she trains post-graduate students and is a recognized teacher and guide for the DNB in obstetrics and gynaecology under the National Board. She received the IMA Fellowship Award in 1987 and the Rani Jhansi Award from Samaj Samithi, Hyderabad.

Her work outside the hospital is documented too. She is an active member of the Indian Red Cross Society and has taken part with First Lady Dr. Haripriya Rangarajan in rehabilitation programmes for disabled children, and she has conducted approximately 80 health camps across Nalgonda District and Hyderabad. She has published a paper on DNA disintegration for cervical cancer.
