Dr. B. Hygriv Rao — Senior Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist in Hyderabad

Dr. B. Hygriv Rao is Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, with more than 30 years of experience across cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.

Rhythm work dominates his list. He performs cardiac ablation for arrhythmia including AF, SVT and VT ablation, treats WPW syndrome, and implants pacemakers and ICDs. Alongside that he performs TAVI or TAVR, the MitraClip procedure and echocardiography, and manages atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, rheumatic heart disease and heart failure.

His training moved north in stages. He read MBBS at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, took his MD in general medicine at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, and his DM in cardiology at GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi. His subspecialty fellowship in electrophysiology was taken at the Electrophysiology Research Foundation in New Jersey.

His editorial work keeps him in the same field. He edits the electrophysiology section of the Indian Heart Journal and is a section editor of the Indian Pacing and Electrophysiology Journal.

His speaking record is the most heavily documented part of his profile. He was an invited participant at the AP CSI annual meeting every year from 2006 to 2013 and at the national CSI annual meeting every year from 2009 to 2012, and at the ISECON annual scientific sessions every year from 2007 to 2012. He also appeared at the Kerala Heart Rhythm Society in 2011, at APHRS 2013 in Hong Kong and at CARDIOSTIM in Nice in 2014, and gave the Uma Rani Benerjee Oration in 2012. He received the DP Basu Award of the CSI in 2005.
