Dr. Koushik Chavalla — Junior Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist in Hyderabad

Dr. Koushik Chavalla is a Junior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in Hyderabad, with more than 12 years of experience in gastroenterology and hepatobiliary medicine.

His list is built around the bile duct and the liver. He performs ERCP and GI stenting and treats biliary strictures, chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. On the liver he manages chronic liver disease, liver cirrhosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and refractory ascites, and he also manages inflammatory bowel disease, severe functional GI disorders and severe gastroesophageal reflux disease.

His training took an unusual route. He read MBBS between 2008 and 2014, then took a diploma in emergency medicine between 2015 and 2016 before his MD in internal medicine between 2016 and 2019. His DM in medical gastroenterology at Bharati Vidyapeeth University ran from 2022 to 2025, and he placed Rank 1 in it.

He holds an advanced endoscopy fellowship in endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP at Yashoda Hospital, running from October 2025 to March 2026. He has also completed a certificate course in the prevention and management of diabetic and cardiovascular diseases at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute.

His earlier posts were in internal medicine rather than gastroenterology. He was Senior Resident in internal medicine at D.Y. Patil Hospital and Assistant Professor in internal medicine at Mallareddy Hospital, so the emergency medicine diploma and those two appointments give him a general medical background beneath a subspecialty practice.
