Dr. Rajiv Agarwal — Vice Chairman & Unit Head in Delhi NCR

Dr. Rajiv Agarwal is Vice Chairman and Unit Head at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, in the Delhi NCR, where he also heads academics and research in cardiac sciences. He has more than 36 years of experience across cardiology, cardiac sciences and interventional cardiology.

His list runs from routine diagnosis to structural intervention: coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and stenting, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, pacemaker and ICD implantation, TAVI or TAVR and the MitraClip procedure, with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation and heart failure on the medical side.

All three of his degrees were taken at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi: the MBBS in 1985, the MD in internal medicine in 1988 and the DM in cardiology in 1990. His interventional fellowship was taken at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1993, and he was elected FACC in 2011.

His career divides into three long postings. He was at AIIMS from 1986 to 1998, at Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre from 1998 to 2017, and at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket since 2017, with concurrent work at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital and at Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital in Ghaziabad.

He was awarded the Institute Medal as best MBBS graduate at AIIMS in 1984, a Commonwealth Scholarship and the Dr. P. N. Berry Scholarship in 1992, the Col. K. L. Chopra Award for original research in ischaemic heart disease in 1995, and the Pandit L. C. Richarya Memorial Oration in 2009.
