Dr. Aishwarya Rajkumar — Consultant in Chennai

Dr. Aishwarya Rajkumar is a Consultant at MGM Healthcare in Chennai, with more than 15 years of experience in pulmonology.

Her list covers bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, transbronchial needle aspiration, medical thoracoscopy and airway stenting, alongside interstitial lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, severe asthma, bronchiectasis, complex pulmonary infection and post-tuberculosis lung disease. Lung transplantation sits at the end of that range, and interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension are among the conditions that lead to it.

She read MBBS and took her MD in pulmonary medicine at SRM Medical College and Research Centre in Chennai. Her transplant training was taken twice over, in two programmes: a fellowship at the Vienna Lung Transplant Program, and a fellowship at the Toronto Lung Transplant Program, where she also took the DRCPSC of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Her advanced EBUS training was with the American College of Chest Physicians.

Two lung transplant programmes on two continents, with a diplomate qualification of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada taken alongside one of them, is a concentration of transplant training that few respiratory physicians hold, and it explains a list that runs from routine bronchoscopy through to transplantation.

Her recognition has come from outside the specialty as well as within it. She received the Times of India Power Women Award in 2021 for excellence in pulmonology and a Women Achiever Award from SRM University, the institution where she trained, in 2023.
